I just received another letter from a talking head that said we need to do something about all the mass shootings in America. Once again, they offered no solutions. I listened to a well-meaning pastor and he also said we need to do something and offered no solutions.
Solution number one. Have instruction classes for parents, want to be parents, grandparents, fill in parents, and anyone else who wanted to learn how to be a parent. I believe this would be a start to remove the poor little old me and the you owe me syndrome.
Solution two. Look at the violent head games on computers, tablets, and phones. The ones that have no outcomes but killing. I believe that when young minds do not understand consequences of actions they believe there are none.
Solution three. Instruct young and old alike the basic life skills of how to handle money. How to prepare a meal. How to do their own laundry. That work equals satisfaction and accomplishment. That there are consequences that go with every decision.
Solution four. Every person when they turn 18 would have a choice of what kind of public service they would do for a minimum of two years. Public service. Military service. National Parks, National infrastructure.
These are starters and I am sure there are many more. I do believe that the solutions must start on the home front, the religious organizations, the community groups, and all the people in the community. Personal accountability and Personal leadership can be taught to one and all.
