Today when I was asked: What does America stand for? I had to take a moment and put together my thoughts.
I first thoughts went to a professional surfer; Phil Edwards quote: There are uncounted millions of people who now go through life without any sort of real, Vibrant Kick! “The Legions of the Un-jazzed” What he meant was we are a nation of people who have become so desensitized, unaware of our surroundings and are just breathing air. Motivation on the individual has ceased, waiting for someone or someone else to get things started.
A – Awareness
M – Motivation
E – Education
R – Resources
I – Individualism
C – Communication
A – ACTION
Let us take them one at a time.
Awareness; In our country today we have been lulled into a sense of security and entitlement. We need to learn to be aware of our surroundings, what is going on next door, in our towns, places of business and yes in our places of worship.
Motivation; We need to be as a nation, community, and individual motivated to look for hands on solutions for energy, transportation, renewing infrastructure, health care, aging with dignity, human basic needs and this grows daily. If you cannot find a job – Invent one!
Education; Education starts at home. We need not just formal education, but common sense education. Nothing in life is free. If it is free, it is worth exactly what you paid for it. The undermining of parental duties undermines the teacher’s ability to teach, and the promise that a formal education will fix all the problems is a false one. Education is a lifetime investment in one’s self. Not a 16 year fix to humanity.
Resources; First, you have to be motivated to do the research and find out the resources. Then you have to learn to use them. Resources come in many different packages, from people to equipment. A carpenter may only have a saw and a plane. But, if he needs a level he surly needs to know where to find it.
Individualism; “Let me free to be me” People who follow their own lead learn quickly that they will become outcasts in our nation today. We have succumbed to the mob mentality where only a few think and the mob follows, Never asking why? I am encouraging you to think for yourself. That means you will have to stay aware, motivated, be self-educated, and use the resources available to you.
Communication; This sounds so easy. We do it every day all day long. We send Emails, Text, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn, cell phone, Face Time, and whatever else we can do without actually spending time face to face enjoying a conversation. We spend a lot of time communicating, but little time building relationships.
ACTION; Taking action is never easy. What if I screw up? is one of the first excuses I hear daily. What is the worst thing that can happen? When we teach that Failure is a positive word, maybe, just maybe our paradigm will change. Action is the attraction and failure is just a learning opportunity.
